The Importance of Solar Energy to our Everyday Lives
Daily headlines make everyone aware of the dangerous situation in which our environment must operate. The human population has historically overtaxed its natural resources and today we are seeing the long-term effects of this selfish behavior. While many people try to reduce their “carbon footprint” by recycling, spending their money in more effective ways and eating a more “earth friendly” diet, one of the most important practices we should all begin is improving our energy efficiency.
One of the most well developed methods of becoming energy efficient is through the use of renewable energies such as outdoor solar lights. In fact solar power is the best developed and most broadly applied of the modern energy technologies and almost anyone can use it to reduce their traditional energy consumption.
How? It is actually quite simple to recognize the ways in which the sun’s energy can be put to use in even the most basic methods. For example, during the hot summer months a home owner or apartment dweller could close all window blinds, curtains or shades to reduce their need for air conditioning or home cooling. (Imagine a summer without warnings about “rolling blackouts” because everyone has to keep their air conditioner turned to its highest settings simply because they allowed the sun to pound into the room all day long.) Alternately during the winter months they could easily rely on the sun’s warmth to heat up a room during the earlier hours of the day and then close the blinds before dusk in order to capture the remaining heat.
Those who have the financial means can use solar energy in a significantly wider number of ways, and not just to heat their domestic hot water or supply their homes with some energy. While such functions are ideally where all home owners should be headed, currently the materials and equipment required to convert a home’s energy supply entirely to a solar powered system are not within everyone’s budget or ability. Home owners can however employ a wide number of solar powered LED lights and appliances (including radios, solar landscape lights, ovens and attic fans) as an effective approach towards energy efficiency.
Finally, solar power has finally reached the automobile industry and several major manufacturers have promised consumers that they will make cars with rooftop solar panels available by the year 2010. While such vehicles may not be fully powered through solar energy it is clearly a step towards a healthier planet.

Space Based Solar Power – Alternative Energy Solution
FACT: There aren’t enough resources on this planet to sustain continued human growth and increasing quality of life. FACT: If we want to avoid catastrophic war, suffering, and global shortages of energy, we need to start looking to space seriously for solutions. Space Based Solar Power is the first step. You Can Make Your Car a Hybrid Running on Water
Increase in gas prices and scarcity of fossil fuels-these are the present issues that the world is facing. Now people are resorting to alternative sources of energy to run their cars. Ethanol is seen as the solution by some. Creating fuel from corn crops may seem a great idea until one realizes the scarcity of food that it might result in. Lower priced fuel is of no use if no one can buy food. Other alternatives include solar-powered cars. The most fuel-efficient cars on the market are the hybrids but they are so expensive they are beyond the budgets of the average family especially in current economic conditions. What can a car owner do to keep his or her costs reasonable? The answer might be to turn your existing car into a hybrid.
This may sound fantastical, like something out of a science fiction film but it isn’t. However, do not expect water to completely replace your need for gasoline. Convertor kits are available today that allow your existing car to become more of a hydrogen hybrid. It allows you to add water to your car in order to fuel it. However, it is important to understand how the process exactly works. It is not the water that provides the energy. Water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen. When exposed to a process known as electrolysis, the hydrogen and oxygen are separated. The hydrogen can then be used to power the engine. Hydrogen is a very volatile gas. Due to this reason some people believe hydrogen-powered cars are a threat on the roads. However, the gasoline we use today is just as volatile. When used with car and common sense, hydrogen is no more dangerous to drivers than any other type of fuel. Another advantage is the decrease in pollution. When the internal combustion engine uses fossil fuels, they emit harmful chemicals into the atmosphere. These chemicals stay in the air and end up causing environmental threats, such as acid rain. With a hydrogen-powered car, the only emission is water vapor. While more water vapor may lead to more clouds and rain, it could also reduce the carcinogens in the air and prevent further damage to the planet. Besides the benefits to the environment and also to your wallet, water-powered cars have another advantage. They may extend the life of your car. Research suggests that water and hydrogen are not as hard on your engine as fossil fuels so it is likely to last longer and have fewer problems. It not only reduces your car’s maintenance costs but also helps is a higher resell value.
The conversion is entirely reversible. If you are not satisfied with the improvement in your gas mileage then you may always revert to the old-fashioned way. This reversible property has made the hybrid cars very demanding and versatile.

The Easy and Inexpensive Way to Build Wind Power Turbines
People around the world are realizing the importance of clean sources of energy such as wind and solar power. Building wind power turbines has become a lot easier nowadays. In fact one need not be a qualified engineer to build one. Man has been using wind power for several centuries now, though it is only recently due to the rising levels of pollution that interest has been revived in them. Windmills and wind turbines can be seen making a comeback in most parts of the world for this reason.
It is always preferable that you do a bit of research on the various parts that make up wind power turbines, before you try your hand at making one. To start off the process you must first of all gather all the equipment that you would need. Construction material is the next thing that you need to decide on. Although both wood and aluminum are used to make windmills, these days aluminum is the preferred material, since it is considered more durable.
The next thing that you need to carefully plan is the location of the turbine. You must make sure that you install it in a place where there is ample open space. Remember, even the best turbine ever built will not be of any use if there were to be insufficient wind flow. The location also should be such that there is unobstructed access to wind current for the free rotation of the blades.
Homemade wind power turbines offer you a great way to save money on energy bills, as well as contribute your might towards a greener world. You can save even up to 80 percent on your energy bills, by using wind power turbines in your home.
